About This Course

This course is required for all California dental license renewals. The participant will learn how to update their existing infection control practices to meet the current minimum standards for Infection Control California Code of Regulations Title 16 §1005. Minimum Standards for Infection Control. Effective 8/20/11.
1) Definitions of terms used in this section
2) Infection prevention following minimum precautions to minimize the transmission of pathogens in health care settings mandated by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA)
3) Review required written protocols: proper instrument processing, operatory cleanliness, and management of injuries, plus posting requirements
4) Personal protective equipment, proper use of, rational for select of
5) Hand Hygiene, when, why, before and after donning gloves and hand conditions requiring work restriction
6) Gloves and Utility Glove use, when required
7) Needle and Sharps Safety, sharps containers
8) Sterilization and Disinfection of Instruments and Devices, Critical, Semi-Critical and wrapping/dating of instruments, Spore testing.
9) Irrigation: Sterile water for surgical procedures
10) Facilities, Environmental Infection Control, Surface Disinfectants, Dental Unit Waterlines
11) Contaminated Solid Waste and regulations for disposal
12) Lab Asepsis, disinfection of impressions, bite registrations, prosthetic and orthodontic appliances, rinsing prior to delivery to patient.
